Add a product by hand
Create one product in the admin, then add its photos.
For one or two products, the form is quicker than a spreadsheet. For a whole catalogue, use Import products and photos.
- Open Products in the admin and press Add product.
- Fill in SKU, Name and Price. The price is per unit, before any customer discount.
- Choose a Category if you want one, or create one on the spot with New category and Add category.
- Set the Case pack (customers order in multiples of it) and the Opening stock, which is recorded as the first movement in the stock log.
- Press Create product.
- Add the photos. They are available once the product is saved, because they need a product to belong to.
Other fields
- Description is optional and appears on the product page.
- Stock badge lets you force In stock, Low stock or Out of stock, or leave it to be worked out from the count.
- Active: an inactive product stays in the back office and leaves the catalogue.
- New puts the New badge on the product and lists it under the New arrivals filter in the catalogue.
- Packing and logistics (length, width, height, weight, inner pack, master box, EAN / barcode), Video link and Custom attributes are all optional. The barcode check digit is verified.
- For tax and price rules, see Prices and discounts.
The New badge
- Products you add carry the New badge for a number of days, without you ticking anything. In Settings, on the General tab, in the Prices and stock card, the option New for N days after adding sets that number, and when it is off only the products you tick carry the badge.
- The option Show new arrivals first makes new products open your catalogue.
- Customers see the New badge on the product and can filter the catalogue with New arrivals.
Photos
- A product holds up to 4 photos. The first one is what the catalogue shows. Drag them to reorder.
- Each photo can be up to 15 MB. It is resized to 1600px, converted to WebP and given a thumbnail, and the file you upload is not kept.
- The upload accepts image files. If the file is not a readable image, it is refused with the message That file is not an image the shop can read.
- To attach many photos at once by filename (ABC-123.jpg goes to SKU ABC-123), use the Photos screen.
ScreenshotScreen /admin/products/new with the Details form filled in and the Create product button, and the photo area saying it is available once the product is saved.
